ow we at the sleep lovers are all about prioritising good sleep. If you want to live a happy and healthy life, sleep is right up there as the starting point to that mission.
Food and movement are close behind but even with good food and exercise if your sleep is not up to scratch then you will suffer. That’s why we are going to talk a bit about where the action happens… (and where we sleep) and how to arrange our bedrooms to make that possible.
If you want to give yourself the best possible chance of sleep you need to feel comfortable and peaceful in bed. The best way to look at this issue is through the five senses.
e’ll start with VISION, now the point of the bedroom is to feel calm enough in to want to sleep so stimulating psychedelic wallpaper is probably not going to help. Colours that provide a calming effect are.
Televisions are also not conducive to good sleep. Some people claim they need a TV on in order to sleep, but if that’s something you need then we need to talk as there are probably other factors going on that make you seek comfort in that. Get the screens OUT! That includes your phone. Leave it on charge in another room if you can bear to be without it, this simple choice could buy more health and happiness.
If you’re going to say I need the alarm clock on it then I’d say Buy an alarm clock!! We love this one here at The Sleep Lovers!
Another thing to bear in mind is keeping the bedroom as dark as possible. That means blackout curtains and again making sure that if there are any devices in the room that the lights are off and there are no flashes. Even a small bit of light can affect your bodies circadian rhythm even when your eyes are closed due to photo sensors on the skin.
lthough it’s not always possible especially with urban dwelling to have a silent bedroom you still want to do everything in your power to give yourself this.
That means TV’s off, devices out, washing machine not running. If you do live in a city then try a white noise backing sound to drown out the sounds of the city (but that’s not an excuse to have your phone in bed!) Some alarm clocks allow you to put your own sounds and songs on to them so this can be a good alternative.
t’s one of the most powerful senses to evoking good feelings and memories. Use it. It may improve your dreams and some research has shown that by evoking the sense of smell in sleep they can enhance memory. (link to a study (Richard Wiseman))
Make your bedroom smell good or add essences to your bedtime routine. The best ones to help promote relaxation and sleep are Lavender, Chamomile, Bergamot, Jasmine, Rose and Sandalwood.

Another thing to be mindful of is the temperature. Cooler the better and as much fresh air as possible. ow we don’t have much to say about this in relation to sleep except brush your teeth before bed and don’t eat in the bedroom (unless it’s part of your lovemaking 😉 )
